Electro Coagulation is the process of destabilizing suspended, emulsified or dissolved contaminants in an aqueous state by inducing an electrical direct current to the medium. The electrical current provides the necessary electro motive force to drive the chemical reactions thus the elements or compounds are enabled to approach the most stable state. This state of stability produces a solid that is less colloidal and less emulsified than the compounds at equilibrium values. As this occurs, the contaminants form hydrophobic entities that precipitate and can be easily removed by a number of secondary separation techniques.
